Movie Review : 22 Jump Street

The boys are back!

Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) are back undercover ….. and this time they are going to college. The plot is the same as the first movie. EXACTLY the same. The entire opening five minutes are basically acknowledging that if it aint broke then don’t fix it. So they don’t.

Schmidt and Jenko are going undercover ….. but in college this time……. because someone is dealing a deadly new drug and a kid has died.

Okay so some things are a little different. Korean Jesus is now Vietnamese Jesus. The 22 Jump Street offices are fully high-tech now. And the rest of the 22 Jump Street team look like they are 12 years old. But that’s it.

And the results are hilarious from the opening moments to the final credit.

Hill and Tatum have such fun with this movie and they make the best team. They are good enough actors to know their strengths and they play to them brilliantly. Tatum’s hot but slightly dumb jock to Hill’s quiet and introspective geek is the perfect mix. There is that perfect combination of physical gags, slapstick humour, witty dialogue and some serious stereotype relationship drama played out.

In this offering, Jenko meets his jock soul mate in Zook (Russell, the offspring of Hollywood power couple Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell) and wants to explore a friendship away from Schmidt. Schmidt is the broken-hearted, wilting, left behind partner……. right down to his exclamation that after a confrontation with Jenko, all he wants to do is crawl into bed and watch Friends. The audience howled with laughter!

There is little more to say other than you MUST go and see this. If you loved 21 Jump Street you will love this. It is even funnier than the original and that so rarely happens. All the old characters from 21 Jump Street return and Ice Cube gives a brilliant performance as Captain Dickson. His best scenes are when he says nothing……you will see what I mean.

You MUST go and see this. It has something for everyone and you will cry laughing I promise. All the best bits are not even in the trailer, the trailer is just a teaser. Oh and make sure you stay through the credits.

Love Flick xx

  1. Filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller (who are themselves impressive partners at this point) know enough not to mess with a successful formula.

  2. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s second-best film of the year (behind The Lego Movie).

  3. great movie. I like
