Movie Review : Mr. Peabody & Sherman

4

Based on the cartoon dog who appeared in the Rocky and Bullwinkle shows of the 1950’s and 1960’s, Peabody is the smartest creature in the world. He decides he wants a child of his own and so adopts the foundling boy Sherman. To entertain his new son, he invents a time traveling machine. Peabody and Sherman travel through history and meet some of its most famous and influential characters.

Finally the day comes when Sherman has to go to school. But things don’t go well for the highly dedicated boy and he is immediately targeted by the school bully Penny. This results in Sherman being disciplined and Peabody being summoned to the school. Peabody is threatened with having his son removed from the family.

In an attempt to smooth things over, he invites some special guests for dinner and this is where things start to get really interesting.

As Peabody, Sherman and Penny travel through time, their opinions of themselves, each other and the world in general begin to change. They interact with some of the greatest names in history, some very smart, some just very famous. But each of them makes their mark.

Some of the more specific time travel issues, such as the space time continuum…..yeah I know right! ….. may (should) go over the kiddies heads but apart from that, this is a gorgeous little movie about belonging and family and friends and love.

Sherman is bright, perky and adorable. Mr Peabody is a tad persnickety but he means well, has a heart of gold and adores his son …. after all his favourite saying is ‘every dog should have a boy ‘ 🙂

This is a fantastic movie for the young and young at heart. Those of you who remember the Rocky and Bullwinkle shows will get a kick out of seeing these characters fleshed out a little more. Our littlest moviegoers will just love these cute and quirky characters and may even be introduced to some historical figures at the same time. So that’s a win/win 😉

Love Flick xx
