The cheeky boys from the Madagascar franchise are back with their very own movie.
Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico are covert secret agents who must stop a mad octopus called, rather menacingly, Dave. You see, Dave holds a major grudge against the penguins who as cute, newborn chicks, stole Dave’s thunder at the zoos they shared. And now he wants revenge.
But Dave is messing with the wrong penguins ….
Our heroes escape and so begins a chase around the world as Dave and his slimy henchmen try to re-capture and turns the penguins into monsters using his awfully radioactive looking green goop.
Luckily, the penguins do not have to fight on their own and are rescued by the North Wind, an elite undercover inter-species task force dedicated to helping animals who cannot help themselves. The North Wind members are Classified, Corporal, Eva and Lucille.
The scene where an increasingly infuriated Classified explains who they are to Skipper is hilarious and worth the ticket price alone!
The penguins and the North Wind all set out to stop Dave and his evil intentions.
This movie is bright and funny and hits the ground running at warp speed. It is cute and endearing with enough of a bite for the grown ups to enjoy it as well. At just over 90 minutes running time it will entertain the kids with it’s snappy dialogue and very different characters.
Voiced by a slew of well-known actors, it’s always fun playing the ‘guess who that is’ during the movie. Also pay attention to Dave’s orders to his minions for some surprising asides.
It loses it’s way during the final showdown with Dave and this is a shame because it started brilliantly! I understand this is not Madagascar 4 and was an attempt to move in another direction …… and for the most part it succeeds ….. but it really was a let down at the end.
However, none of this will have much of an impact on our littlest movie goes and keeping the kids entertained for a few hours in the cool air-conditioned cinema is what it’s all about. Right?
