TV Review : Sense8 (Netflix)

Over the weekend, I was browsing through Netflix (a recently acquired skill, don’t you dare judge me!) and came across Sense8. Somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind I remembered someone mentioning they had watched an episode….or something. And I love House of Cards and Orange is the New Black so yep….I was in.

And I only moved when I absolutely had to for the next 24 hours.

This is the most original, the most fantastic series in a long, long, time. It’s like Lost and Heroes and X Files and American Horror Story all orgied up and gave birth to this fabulous and amazing love child.

(Oh and speaking of orgies ….. I think episode 6 is the one you will be wanting to see. Just an FYI 😉 )

The basic premise is that 8 people who are scattered all across the globe are suddenly linked to each other. They can feel each other, share each others thoughts. Naturally, these gifted individuals are hunted by bad guys so they must figure it all out and save themselves and each other.

The story unfolds over the next 12, 50 minute (ish) long episodes and it is one hell of a ride. One of the best things about this show is it is a true reflection of our modern society. It includes more than just the token gay, or the token strong woman, or the token person of ethnicity that is not Caucasian. The characters are not sad, lonely, pathetic beings searching for and only finding solace in each other. They are divinely flawed, well-rounded characters who have all suffered and enjoyed much through their young lives.

It is a very strong, very well scripted, very well acted piece of television that I encourage everyone to watch. As far as I know, it has yet to be commissioned for another season but fingers crossed we get to meet these marvelous new creations again.

5 stars!

Love Flick xx

PS. A big shout out to iinet, Xbox and my kids for making Netflix happen for me. WOOHOO!!
